You Will Too!

I started my new job today. It's alright so far. I did a lot of copying and scouring the internet searching for news articles relating to Claremont Graduate University. I think this is a good job for me right now because I'm learning a lot about the school.

There's this professor who's like 95 named Peter Drucker and the School of Management Building is named after him. Apparently he's this Business Guru and has written books on the subject. According to the internet, people in London who write articles relating to Business and Finance like to quote him a lot. Because that's what returned in my Lexis-Nexis search on him today.

So I'm guessing he is to Claremont Graduate University what Pat Croce is to West Chester University.

German Fact of the Day

Anna had a friend who went to Germany for I forget how long. While she was there she kept a Livejournal and everyday she would post a German Fact of the Day. I don't even know really if that's what she called it but everyday she would post something interesting about Germany or German culture. I want to do that.

There's really obvious stuff like the fact that they sell Beer and Wine in Supermarkets and Convenience Stores or that the curbs are painted red instead of yellow to inform you not to park there. But there is also really interesting stuff, like I hope this one is.

In all the classrooms above the door are Earthquake Warnings and instructions on what to do in case of Earthquakes.

Yes, Samuel L. Jackson Was In Jurassic Park

I just left my room to use the computer lab. I am somehow getting wireless internet in my room but I'm not sure how. Jolie says I'm stealing it from someone else. Whatever it's superslow so I'm in the computer lab. This was the first time I left my room at night and it was a little scary because I noticed how much campus resembles Jurassic Park. I'll take pictures. Seriously, uncanny.

So classes start tomorrow and before that begins I just wanted to update this because I haven't been doing a good job of that.

I am in California. I am about to begin the process of getting my Master's Degree in Cultural Studies from Claremont Graduate University. I have two classes this semester and will be working at the Office of Marketing and Communications. I will write more about that once I start.

I'm living on campus in a place that resembles the seedier side motels at the Jersey Shore. I have two roommates Marco and Phillip. At first I thought everyone was way older than me but I think that's because I'm used to hanging out with people younger than me. I really don't feel or think I look 25.

So I had a great summer and an even better year, and I miss everyone so much. But I'm going to have fun this semester because even Max Fischer made a go of it over there at Grover Cleveland.

Withdrawl

Withdrawl. That's the word my mom used when I told her how I was feeling about leaving home. I'm going through East Coast Withdrawl. But I feel like its too soon for that. This is just feeling homesick plain and simple. I'm half way through the weekend and I'm doing a lot better.

There's a lot to write about but first this picture is for Rob.

"I broke free on a Saturday morning, I put the pedal to the floor. Headed north on Mills Avenue and listened to the engine roar."

So far things are pretty boring. This may change when classes start, but it may not. But that's okay too.

I started my day three hours earlier than EST with a trip to the post office to pick up a package my mom sent out here on Monday. Then I had breakfast at Starbucks. I sat outside which was a mistake because the mornings get really hot here. Leslie said that will change soon though.

After breakfast I hungout in Rhino Records for a while and then went back to my place. I talked to my sister and then took a nap. When I woke up I went to get something to eat and then went to the supermarket. It was kinda far but my roommate Marco just told me about a closer one so I'll check that out.

So yeah, California is beautiful, but really I'd trade it all for a Wawa.

Much To Do

In some strange course of events lifetime, one of my favorite bands, will be playing three reunion shows this weekend. And it's all because Hellfest being cancelled. I was going to go to Hellfest just to see them but dropped the ball when it came to getting tickets.

So Lifetime is playing three shows this weekend, tonight at the Troc, tomorrow at the starlight ballroom, and Sunday at the Stone Pony. If it had been any other weekend, I would've went to all three, but I have plans this weekend that I don't want to get out of. And suddenly this weekend is all about letting go. About goodbye.

There's tons of stuff to blog about lately and I haven't been. I think if I was still working, I'd be updating more but I'm really at my computer a lot.

So many shows this fall I'm pissed about missing. Belle and Sebastian, Bright Eyes at the Academy of Music again, and 2 Roots shows, one at WCU and one at the fucking Kimmel Center with Deerhoof and TV On The Radio opening. Deerhoof and TV On The Radio at the Kimmel Center, that is amazing and I want to witness that.

Other news:

Went to the Daily Show with Jill. I'll post pictures.
Hanging in Philly with Julie on Thurs
Magnolia Electric Co at the Church with Rob

Tonight Huff is having a party for me at his place and then Saturday I'm seeing the Teeth with Sarah and Jill. Then Monday Jill and Kelly are having a party for me at their place.

Wednesday is my last night. I'm leaving Thursday morning.

Bats!

I'm at work. Today is my last day and I'm working down in IMC. I didn't take my break today cause Nirmal wanted me to take it early so I could work downstairs. Instead I talked to Matt for awhile. Now I'm trapped in Joe's office, which is really messy and there's a bat loose in the library on the first floor. I keep seeing it flying around. When I was told I had to work downstairs I asked Julia if the library would be paying for my rabies shots?

Julia called public safety to tell them there was a bat in the library and the switch board operator said "What do you want me to do about it?" Oh public safety, they make you feel so safe.

Julia said she never saw a bat before so I said I would show her and then I did a google image search for batman and she laughed.

This is the third bat I saw in two days and I used to think bats only lived in Transylvania. Yesterday Becky, Matt and I were walking to the post office when we saw a dead bat on Walnut St. and last night during our wiffle ball game this bat kept swooping when the ball would be hit.

New Header

This is the new header I made for my blog. I'm going to try and put it up.

Do You Even Know What A Wawa Is?

Last night at this bar on 2nd and Chestnut called Eulogy maybe, Rob and I were talking about the best album of the year and for some reason I couldn't even think of my top five.

I know for sure it is not Clap Yr Hands and Say Yeah! The album's not great. I think it's pretty good, but not great. And these deformed babies they have as their logo is pretty creepy.

I just found this website and it's pretty cool.

In other news, Bam Margera is heading a campaign to change Pennsylvania's state song to a Bloodhound Gang song. It's a really funny song. You can read about it here.

I tend not to take anything associated with Bam too seriously, but I still signed the petition.

California Tenspeed

What I don't like most about the Clap Yr Hands record is that Pitchfork gave it a 9.0 but they praise it for the same reasons they think the Dr. Dog album sucks.

Also, the Teeth were in the news section of Pitchfork today. I think for the first time. They are playing on August 20th at the North Star Bar. It may be my last Teeth show for a while.

Had a fun weekend. Did lots of stuff. There is so much to do though before I leave. I booked my flight to California. I'm leaving on Thursday August 25th at 6:20am. Sunday I went to Philly with Jilly and did touristy things and I haven't did that before. It was fun. We went to the Constitution Center and I saw Abraham Lincoln's hat.

On Friday when I was getting ready to leave for the city this squirrel jumped in through our kitchen window somehow. I guess the screen was loose. He started knocking stuff over and couldn't get out. I quick opened up the front and back doors and chased him around til I couldn't find him anymore. Then I spent the rest of the weekend at Jill and Kelly's.

I've been watching Entourage, Six Feet Under and Arrested Development. Entourage, I love so much. I love the characters and the actors. I love that it's not even about Hollywood at all. Six Feet Under is fucking killing me! I can't believe what they are doing. I wish someone else was watching so I had someone to talk to about it. It's hard to go through alone. And Arrested Development, I really wish I hadn't spent the past year working Sunday nights and missing the best television show ever, ever. I have one more disc left from Season One left. It should be coming tomorrow. I'm also supposedta get a Documentry on Jandek and the short film collection of Hal Hartley.

Went to see Matt's band last night at 15 North. They had a great name, Mammal. They did a Motorhead cover, Ace of Spades. They were just a little too metal. Wished they were a little more prog. With a name like Mammal, they need to be. The band before them, were toat awful. They did mid 90's alt rock covers. And sat down on stools for what Becky called the Unplugged effect. I disagreed and pointed out, as the band sat through 311 and Greenday covers that Nirvana didn't do Smells Like Teen Spirit unplugged, they did fuckin' All Apologies.
