Reaffirming Consumerism
I've been buying CDs lately. Since I came to California I've had the disposable income to, but also, I like the idea of my record collection once again being something I can hold. Besides, Claremont has a great record store in Rhino Records.
I'm not sure if this new found consumer-side of is trying to justify this but, I feel like there is something important about buying records again. In a naive way it's about paying for music even though I can get it elsewhere. It's about having the option and saying these are the artists I want to support. And even though my money would better support these artists by attending their live shows, in a way, my money is also making sure Rhino Records stays in business.
I know these actions are reactionary rather than revolutionary if anything, but downloading music isn't going to bring down capitalism either.
Recent Purchases:
The Go! Team - Thunder, Lightning, Strike
Ryan Adams - Jacksonville Nights
M.I.A. - Arular
Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning
Screeching Weasel - My Brain Hurts
Phyllis Dillon - Love Is All I Had
The Blues Busters - Behold: The Anthology
