The Horizon Line Seems Hazy.

A little news from the west coast:

Brandon and I are DJing at the Press in Claremont tomorrow night. It's going to be quite an experience. Brandon and I have such opposite opinions on music that the union should be a glorious mess of mod/psyche/electronic/garage. This will be greatness.

I'm presenting a paper I am writing for my Field Research Methods class at a CGU Cultural Studies Conference next Saturday. The paper isn't finished yet nor have I worked on my presentation. This will be the opposite of the DJ night.

I'm arriving on a jet plane in Philadelphia on Monday December 12, 2005. I will make a dramatic return to eastern standard time.

Maybe a should be blogging on Myspace.

A Song For Someone Who Needs Somewhere To Long For

My eyes got blurry from staring at my computer screen so I took a break from computer writing.

On days I get to sleep late, I end up being unable to shake this achey, tired feeling and its something only a cup of coffee can cure.

So I walked into town in the pitch black that is now 6pm PST. I called Tammy on the way but she did not answer, so I called Julia and she did not answer.

I left the most annoyed sounding messages, because I feel so awkward talking to voicemail. And on top of that doing it in public. When someone's on the other end of the line, I'm fine but when I have to leave a message, I'm alone. Talking to myself, in public. So what usually happens is just as I'm about to leave my message someone is walking by. I hate that.

What happened tonight was far worse. Before I got to the part where I had to leave a message for Tammy I saw someone walking on the sidewalk toward me. So I crossed the street at the intersection, but the way we were both going he crossed the intersection the other way so when it got to the part where I had to leave a message again, we had crossed paths again.

And then after Tammy wasn't around I decided to call Julia. Once again I get to the part where I have to leave a message and this dude starts crossing the street in the middle of the block coming right at me. At the speed we were both going, just as I was about to leave a message, he was right next to me. So I sped up walking. I hate that.

But I got a good cup of coffee.

A Bad Friend

Amazon has this feature that lets you see everything you've ever ordered off their site. This is what I was doing instead of working on my research paper tonight.

On August 31, 1999 I ordered Drugstore Cowboy on VHS.

This was not for me, but I can't remember who I bought it for. I totally suck.

Thirty Days Project

This picture is really funny:

I saw it outside my place. Keep in mind this sign is posted right in front of a dumpster. It also draws attention to the fact that CGU does not recycle.

I finally got around to posting the zine I was working on this summer. Here's the link

The 30 Days Project

also Jill sent me this link. It's way funnier than the picture above:

Indoor Voices

Rob called me at work yesterday and Mandy was taking a personal call as well, and I've heard Michael take calls too; Bryan's cell rings all day, so I answered it.

Somewhere over the course of the conversation I forgot where I was and entered this little bubble of just me and Rob. This was great because I absolutely missed it, you have no idea. We could be in a room full of people and it would feel like no one else is there.

A particular time comes to mind during a Christmas shopping trip to the Exton mall that involved me, Rob and Jill. We talked non-stop about the our best of 2004 mixes. We talked the whole way there, the whole time in the mall, the whole way back, and maybe hours after that.

I remember not remembering I was at work. I remember saying things really loud like "No, I've heard that really attractive girls use online dating services to meet guys." and "The Thirsty Camel? Was it during the Lingerie Lunch?... Oh God! No."

I suddenly came back to where I was and realized I better end the call. Maybe I shouldn't take personal calls at work anymore.

I picked up the new issue of the OC Weekly at Rhino Records this morning and was really excited to find out the cover was dedicated to my new favorite obsession.

And in a related story that mirrors my Bam sighting in LA, an article on Peter Gallager's new album was written by none other than Philly's Doug Wallen.

In more OC news, Amazon is having a sale on Arrested Development DVDs. You can get both seasons for 30 bucks!

Preventive Measures

I went to see the 40 Yr Old Virgin Friday night.

When we passed by the library, Andrew called Honnuld-Mudd fascist because they make you scan yr ID before entering.

At Harvard, a similar policy is in effect.

When asked about this policy, the library said it was to prevent homeless people from coming in and writing stuff and tearing stuff out of the books.

Working at the FHG in West Chester for 3 years I have never encountered such a thing.

Mostly homeless people would come in to sleep or look at porn on the computers. Sometimes both.

But this is Harvard for you. Even the homeless there are among the intellectual elite.

Maybe it's not a destructive act. Maybe they are just very critical. I wonder which books exactly do Harvard's homeless have a problem with? Maybe they're ripping out pages to get rid of out of date theories and the marking up of other texts is just marginal analysis or notes on clarification.

You don't know.

Confessions of a Twixter-Hipster

I meant to put these up a while ago The first one is a mix CD that I made for Jon. I am especially proud of the title and the cover art. The picture on the front is stolen from Cobra Snake and edited in Microsoft Word. The title is all me.

The second one is a notebook that Marissa sent me. She worked hard on the cover and I love it. It was a really nice gift. Its my gernal. I write my thoughts in it every day.

Mimi Was The Boat

Kevin Smith's recent expedition into the wonderful world of Canadian Broadcasting ala his recent guest-starring role on Degrassi TNG had me thinking about if his love and affection for Ben Affleck is somehow connected.

Affleck's career-launching spot aboard The Voyage of the Mimi in 1984 had Canadian melodrama written all over it.
