Preventive Measures
I went to see the 40 Yr Old Virgin Friday night.
When we passed by the library, Andrew called Honnuld-Mudd fascist because they make you scan yr ID before entering.
At Harvard, a similar policy is in effect.
When asked about this policy, the library said it was to prevent homeless people from coming in and writing stuff and tearing stuff out of the books.
Working at the FHG in West Chester for 3 years I have never encountered such a thing.
Mostly homeless people would come in to sleep or look at porn on the computers. Sometimes both.
But this is Harvard for you. Even the homeless there are among the intellectual elite.
Maybe it's not a destructive act. Maybe they are just very critical. I wonder which books exactly do Harvard's homeless have a problem with? Maybe they're ripping out pages to get rid of out of date theories and the marking up of other texts is just marginal analysis or notes on clarification.
You don't know.
